The EU has launched the so-called European Green Deal. Its goal is to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. This includes the new EU chemicals strategy. It will simplify processes for companies, but also impose stricter regulations.
The path to the European Green Deal proceeds through a multitude of individual measures. The European Commission has also presented a chemicals strategy for the years 2021 to 2024. Its goal is to protect human health as best as possible and to contribute to a pollution-free environment.
Before In the EU, after the registration, evaluation, and authorisation of chemicals, their implementation was through the REACH, CLP and biocide regulations, the EU chemicals strategy is now the next step to strengthen safety and sustainability in the handling of chemicals.
Through these changes, the European Commission also hopes to encourage innovation in the production of chemicals. On the one hand, further bans on chemicals in certain consumer products are to be expected. On the other hand, the EU chemicals strategy is intended to bring about procedural simplifications for companies. Therefore, the revision of the REACH Regulation will also be necessary – again with the aim of simplifying processes regarding the testing and authorisation of the chemical substances used.
